Just Not Enough Me

Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, who also has made us adequate as servants of a new covenant…” 2 Cor 3:5-6a.

It was a long night, and yet it felt so short. A little before midnight, Hubby got sick with a stomach bug. Then half an hour later,  Little Man also got sick. Just after I got him back to bed, Sissy made her appearance on the scene as yet another victim of this vicious bug. The craziness lasted until about 3:30, everyone taking turns in the bathrooms. I sure wished for our third bathroom that’s currently being remodeled! We all finally fell asleep for a few hours – short but sweet sleep before the action began again.

As I pulled myself out of bed and stared at the day ahead, I thought to myself, “There’s just not enough ‘me’ to go around!” How on earth was I going to help everyone today? Then God reminded me of the above verse…I am not sufficient in myself – any more than Paul was adequate in himself as a minister of the gospel. But Jesus is sufficient. He is big enough, kind enough, powerful enough, all-present enough. And He makes me adequate in Him to minister to those in my care. “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:19). He will meet us in our neediness. “…let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb 4:16). Today, I need kindness and tenderness. I need unselfishness and wisdom and endurance. And I need God to multiply my efforts. I will walk in confident faith today and let Jesus serve my family through me. Because He’s enough. He’s got this.
